50,000 Year Old Salvaged Kauri Body
Austin came to us with a unique challenge: to transform an especially sentimental piece of salvaged ancient kauri he and his father had purchased years ago into a rock and roll machine. Together, we selected a stunning salvaged redwood top to complement the elegant, chambered kauri body. We matched a C shape torrified birdseye maple neck and sustainably sourced ebony fretboard for effortless playability and a bright, snappy tone. SniderBorn™ Hand-Wound Hot Humbucker pickups turn that tone up to 11, and a TonePros™ Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece help every note ring true, with perfect intonation and near-endless sustain. The rock-ready result is a masterwork, as beautiful perched on its stand as it is snarling in Austin's hands.

He wanted something somehow familiar and entirely different. It looks like a standard Strat, but there’s loads more beneath the surface. Take a closer look and you’ll find the familiar grain of swamp ash dancing through a custom translucent white wash lacquer finish, offset by a stunning ebonized walnut pickguard. With its thin D shape neck and pistachio fretboard, it plays as fast and free as its flamed maple neck sounds. Hand wound vintage single coil pickups give this axe its bite, and the Gotoh 510 tremolo bridge gives it some play. In other words, it has the classic rock and roll look and sound, only it’s turned up to 11 and eager to strut its stuff.
Complete Specs“Perfect” means many different things to many different people. When Rax Trax Recordings in Chicago called, it meant one thing in particular: to combine the best features of all their studio guitars in one all-capable instrument. It began with a visit to the Rax Trax studio, where we spent hours playing and learning every inch of each guitar, including an old Les Paul Studio so well worn it almost played itself. Back home in our shop in Colorado, we started building. The body made of ultra-light swamp ash, matched to a gorgeous salvaged old growth flamed redwood top. The neck is Honduran mahogany, with a slightly asymmetrical soft V. The medium jumbo frets on its granadillo fretboard are overground to mimic the otherworldly playability of that weathered Les Paul, with a Bigsby B5 and Schaller Roller Bridge. The hand wound T-style single coil pickup at the bridge and humbucker make it perfect for whatever’s in your fingers. It quickly became the studio favorite—and with how many albums Rax Trax has put down, you’ve probably heard it played a time or two, too.
