Koa Legend OG

Koa Legend OG

Born with inherent beauty, this legendary Custom OG Drop is designed with world class ergonomic, playability and tone in mind.  When we want to prioritize playability and feel, aesthetic accoutrements such as fancy binding are thoughtfully left out. This allows for softer edges and more ergonomic curves, including our proprietary heel relief, which makes playing the upper frets as effortless as the first. All Born Guitars have our signature bound fretboard and fret dressing, making your neck feel silky smooth and soft for the rest of your life. Never has playing a guitar felt so effortless, allowing your creativity to flow beyond what you thought was possible. Built with highly figured sustainably harvested Hawaiian Koa, FSC Honduran Mahogany, Cameroon Ebony and Indonesian Macassar Ebony.

'Fire' Born Guitar

OG-Carve Myrtlewood 'Fire'

This one-of-a-kind instrument was crafted in close collaboration with one of our customers who had lived through the Colorado Cal-Wood Fire in 2020.  They not only demanded excellent tone, build quality and feel, but also remembrance of the fires that impacted 1000's of people in our community.

The tailpiece is a Born custom design, and we made it out of reclaimed green ash from the Colorado Marshall fire that burned down over 1,000 structures, impacted over 37,000 residents, and ultimately amounted to the nightmarish crescendo of massive forest fires that teared through North America from 2020 to December of 2021.  Green Ash is not known as an instrument wood, but we were able to find a nice quartersawn ,hard-grained piece out of a partly burned timber. Green Ash is light in color, similar to maple, and so making a black tailpiece to match the guitar was not simple.  We developed a modified Japanese Shou Sugi Ban wood burning technique to preserve the strength of the wood and blacken the tailpiece to a charcoal black. The tailpiece has a gloss finish and natural feel.

MG Drop Tuxedo Custom

This musician wanted something somewhat familiar yet entirely different. It looks like a standard Strat, but there’s loads more beneath the surface. Take a closer look and you’ll find the familiar grain of swamp ash dancing through a custom translucent white wash lacquer finish, offset by a stunning ebonized walnut pickguard. With its thin D shape neck and pistachio fretboard, it plays as fast and free as its flamed maple neck sounds. Hand wound vintage single coil pickups give this axe its bite, and the Gotoh 510 tremolo bridge gives it some play. In other words, it has the classic rock and roll look and sound, only it’s turned up to 11 and eager to strut its stuff.

RAX TRAX RECORDING’S CUSTOM

OG Drop - Rax Trax Recording's Custom
“Perfect” means many different things to many different people. When Rax Trax Recordings in Chicago called, it meant one thing in particular: to combine the best features of all their studio guitars in one all-capable instrument. It began with a visit to the Rax Trax studio, where we spent hours playing and learning every inch of each guitar, including an old Les Paul Studio so well worn it almost played itself. Back home in our shop in Colorado, we started building. The body made of ultra-light swamp ash, matched to a gorgeous salvaged old growth flamed redwood top. The neck is Honduran mahogany, with a slightly asymmetrical soft V. The medium jumbo frets on its granadillo fretboard are overground to mimic the otherworldly playability of that weathered Les Paul, with a Bigsby B5 and Schaller Roller Bridge. The hand wound T-style single coil pickup at the bridge and humbucker make it perfect for whatever’s in your fingers. It quickly became the studio favorite—and with how many albums Rax Trax has put down, you’ve probably heard it played a time or two, too.

Kauri Redwood

MG Carve - Custom
Austin came to us with a unique challenge: to transform an especially sentimental piece of salvaged ancient kauri he and his father had purchased years ago into a rock and roll machine. Together, we selected a stunning salvaged redwood top to complement the elegant, chambered kauri body. We matched a C shape torrified birdseye maple neck and sustainably sourced ebony fretboard for effortless playability and a bright, snappy tone. SniderBorn™ Hand-Wound Hot Humbucker pickups turn that tone up to 11, and a TonePros™ Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece help every note ring true, with perfect intonation and near-endless sustain. The rock-ready result is a masterwork, as beautiful perched on its stand as it is snarling in Austin's hands.
