Carving wooden guitar frame
Yes! We will ship to any country as long as there are not trade restrictions that would prohibit the delivery of your guitar.
Yes. We can do all maintenance and repairs on Born guitars, but we do not perform maintenance or repairs on other guitar brands.  Manufacturer’s defects will be repaired for free subject to our Limited Lifetime Warranty.  For guitars that are outside of their warranty period and/or are in need of standard maintenance or repair, we will gladly perform the necessary work for a nominal fee. To avoid paying large shipping costs we recommend finding a quality guitar technician in your area.  Any damage done by someone other than a qualified Born luthier or technician will void our Limited Lifetime Warranty. If you need help finding a qualified guitar tech in your area, then please contact us. We are happy to help!
If you want to change something about your order, call us immediately.  We’ll do our best to accommodate your request in a timely and cost-effective manner.  Your luthier will work directly with you throughout the design and build process to ensure every detail is the way you want it. Changes to finish, hardware color/finish, knobs and electronics can usually be made even after the build has started.
Visitation of our custom shop is by invitation only.  You may request a visit or tour, but a visit is not guaranteed.  Personal tours and visits to the shop disrupt customer builds and the flow of the shop.  New and existing customers are always welcome to schedule a visit to the shop. If you visit our shop please be respectful of our time so that we can focus our day on building guitars.  If you have questions or need guidance on your build we are always happy to schedule a phone call or answer all your questions via email.
The average duration from the time your order is finalized to when it arrives at your door is about 3-6 months.  This can vary depending the complexity of your guitar, type of finish, and the woods you choose for your guitar.  We strive to deliver your guitar in about 3-4 months, but at Born quality always comes first so complex highly customized guitars can take significantly longer.  This period also provides ample time for woods to stabilize after they are shaped in each process of the build.  For example, after the initial shaping of your neck it will rest so we can see if the wood moves at all.  This allows us to ensure you will have a nice stable guitar neck.   Wood is an organic material, which means each piece of wood has its own unique characteristics.  We handle each piece of wood differently depending on these characteristics, and because each of our guitars are one-of-a-kind we need to take extra time to make your dream guitar perfect.

We will send an invoice for all deposits and final payment via email with an easy to use online payment system.  You can pay with an electronic check or we now accept all major credit cards. We can also receive payment through Paypal.

A $1000 deposit is required to hold your place on the waitlist and in the production line, reserve specific wood pieces, and to work with our luthiers on your design.  Before we start building your custom guitar we require a 50% deposit.  The the remaining 50% is due upon completion before we ship the guitar.

We can also create a payment plan that fits your timeline and budget. Please contact us for more information.

Master luthier and Owner Jonathan (Jay) Miller builds every guitar at Born. Jonathan has been obsessing over guitars since he was in high school, and started Born Custom Guitars with the mission of building the best electric guitars possible.  He has studied every detail of electric guitar design, traditional & modern building methods and has learned from many very talented and well known luthiers such as John Page.  As a result Jonathan makes some of the finest electric guitars in the world.  He tailor makes each custom electric guitar to your exacting specifications.  Jay will even match your favorite neck shape from a guitar you own, or create a new shape that will best suit your playing style and hand size.

When you order a custom Born you will work directly with Jay to design the ultimate electric guitar for your playing style.

Absolutely!

We will design and inlay nearly anything into your fretboard and even your guitar.

The only restrictions are:

  1. Is it possible and does it fit on the guitar?
  2. Is the design convertible into an inlay? Too small? Too complex for inlay?
  3. ‘It costs what?!’

Custom inlay can range in price from a couple hundred dollars for something relatively simple to thousands of dollars for the most complex designs.

Cost depends on:

  1. Complexity of Design
  2. The amount of Design Work required (Ex. Sketches, Revisions, Final Design Layout)
  3. Materials used

Please contact us if you are interest in learning more.

Yes, we will create custom stains, bursts, colors and finishes just for your Born electric guitar. Keep in mind that one-off custom work and designs cost money, and to make a custom color or finish look its best requires significant amounts of labor and testing.  Your new guitar should look amazing and just the way you want it, and to do things right just takes a little more love.
