Music is one of the purest forms of curiosity brought to life—an exploration of sound that transcends words. It’s the unfiltered voice of emotion, the resonance of experience, the instinctual pursuit of something just beyond reach. The act of creating music is a journey of discovery, where the notes we chase and the melodies we stumble upon become reflections of who we are. When an instrument feels like an extension of the player, creativity flows freely, unrestricted by hesitation or doubt. It’s in these moments that curiosity transforms into something tangible—something timeless.
Have you ever wondered what makes a person so creative?
How one person is able to generate so much original and beautiful art as if it simply flows from their fingertips? While there are certainly people who have a natural gift for art, whether it be design, painting or music, I believe all of us are born with a creative spirit. Creativity, after all, is the manifestation of our curiosity. Curiosity is our soul exploring the universe without burden. When our curiosity is free to explore the world in different mediums, our mind is able to express our desires and emotions with purity.
Think of a child’s first experiences in the world. Every thing they encounter is a new novel experience to see, touch and listen. It’s this youthful curiosity that moves us forward to explore new ideas, try new things and develop new skills. Everything a child creates is created through untainted imagination. Their creativity is unbound, and restrained only by physical ability.
I’m fascinated by the stories, drawings, songs and projects my kids come up with. They add color and laughter to scrap paper and boxes, rhythm to pots and pans, and life to inanimate objects through story and imagination. It’s only when we are taught that certain things are ‘correct’, ‘better’ or worse, ‘incorrect’, that we start to develop subconscious roadblocks into our creative self.
“ We are all born with this curiosity, and it’s inside all of us. Surely there is a genetic predisposition for some to be more curious than others, but everyone of us has the ability to create something novel.
Whether your strengths lie in language, math, science, music, sports, cooking, the arts, or even agriculture, we all have the ability to add our own unique expression to even the most used recipes, works and formulas. It’s only through training that many of us have become locked into a particular frame of mind, and dare I say, a misconception of a right and wrong way to do things.
We’ve all experienced some form of mental block, writer’s block, getting stuck in a rut, feeling burnt out, and frustration. Part of this is the learning process, and fighting through any difficult new venture is really part of learning. Our frustration is a signal that we are pushing boundaries, and when we persevere we will look back with a sense of accomplishment and earned wisdom. It’s only when we become overwhelmed by our frustration and the constraints placed upon us (by others or ourselves) that we start to freeze. This state of freeze shackles our mind and starts to smother our curiosity. This is completely normal and happens to the best of us, but if those shackles are not removed, our curiosity is slowly weakened and ultimately inhibits our ability to to be creative. After all, our creativity is our manifestation of novel exploration, and our uninhibited curiosity.
All of us have a creative and curious soul.

Your soul’s curiosity, and the enjoyment you have felt making noise - That’s your youthful self expressing the moment, your emotions and desires. You are unique and expressive, and in those moments, your soul resonates effortlessly with your fingers and the guitar. You forget about the world, your troubles, and the noise around you. It’s in those moments that your mind is curiously exploring the sound your fingers create, without the burden of mistakes, wrong notes and comparison to the greats. Your soul is free, and your creativity flows into the strings' vibrations.
